soda pop

Postby leethehunter » Thu Mar 19, 2015 10:54 am

I work in a casino in the Pacific NW and we have a soda machine that is self service and as you can imagine it gets trashed everyday. I pulled the carpet(3'x3' squares) up on a corner and the concrete is black from all the years of patrons spilling soda there. Any ideas how to solve this daily problem?

This situation is common throughout casino world. Spillage is the #1 problem and cannot be averted. The only thing we can do is clean after the spill occurs. That said, we can do things that may be able to help us address the problem easier, especially in a 24/7 environment.

You stated that the carpet is a 3'x3' carpet tile. If the carpet tile is adhered to the floor with a "release adhesive" or free laid with no adhesive; the carpet tiles that are being spilled on at the soda machine can be removed and replaced with "attic stock" (carpet tiles of the same color held in reserve in case of damage), then the dirty tiles allowed to dry, cleaned and held to be reinstalled.

Since the spillage is a daily occurrence and the carpet tiles are probably never dry, rotate/exchange the attic stock carpet tiles for the carpet tiles that have been spilled on that day, then cleaned and held in reserve to be put back into service the next day. In this way you will always have clean carpet tiles to put into place and the soda will not saturate the carpet tiles and the floor underneath.

Another way of doing this is to use 2 track off mats and rotate the dirty mat out for the clean one each day. Then clean the dirty on when it is dry in preparation to exchange with the dirty one.
