What is STRATEGEM?

It’s an overall maintenance strategy that recognizes the performance characteristics of carpet and how carpet performs relative to soiling and cleaning and applies targeted solutions that deliver clean, good looking carpet every day at reasonable cost.

How does STRATEGEM achieve “the look of new” carpet every day?

Simple:

• Keep the dirt out of the building [+ read more][- less]
  90% of the dirt that accumulates in the carpet comes in on people’s shoes and 85% of that dirt is dry and best removed by vacuuming. Use walk-off mats or inserts to keep the dirt out. Use the HOST ExtractorVac to remove the dirt from the mats daily so the mats can keep on working. Place them at entrances to the building. They should be large enough (20 lineal feet) so that the shoes are cleaned off as people enter the building. At least 7 to 10 footsteps are required to clean the shoes properly.
• Remove the dirt that accumulates in the carpet every day [+ read more][- less]
  Dirt accumulates in the track-off, funnel, main traffic areas, spill-prone locations – even if you can’t see it. Carpet hides most of the dry dirt. Don’t be fooled. Keep the soil from spreading. The most important areas in the building are the entrances, elevator lobbies, and doorways inside the building, food service areas, break rooms, copy machine locations and main traffic areas. This is where the dirt is heaviest. Remove the dirt before it builds up. The majority of the dirt (85%) in the carpet is dry dirt and can be removed by ExtractorVacuuming. The plan calls for daily HOST ExtractorVacuuming of the most highly trafficked areas to remove the buildup of dirt.
• Remove spots & spills every day [+ read more][- less]
  Spots and spills are removed as they occur and can often be removed while ExtractorVacuuming the carpet by using HOST Dry Carpet Cleaner. Many of the spots will come out with a microfiber cloth moistened with water, or use the HOST Spot Remover.
• Clean where people walk as needed [+ read more][- less]
  The oily, greasy, sticky dirt, which represents 15% of the dirt and is also found in the track-off, funnel, main traffic areas, is removed by using HOST Dry Carpet Cleaner and the ExtractorVac. These areas are scheduled for HOST cleaning on a frequency based on the traffic flow in the facility. This prevents the buildup and spread of this greasy, sticky dirt.
• Monitor and assess the results regularly [+ read more][- less]
  There may be need to alter the schedule during winter months due to tracking of ice, snow and salt into the facility. Seasonal adjustments are normal. The important thing is to monitor the carpet regularly to make sure you are achieving the objective and managing your costs and labor time.
